[excerpt] New research by Rescue Remedy announced today, reveals that a staggering 96% of women feel stressed everyday. Over a third (35%) said they have too much to do and not enough hours in the day, with half (53%) admitting to having less than an hour of ‘me-time’ at the end of each day. The research concludes that today’s women need a 26-hour day to get their life back in balance.
Slave to chores
The research discovered it is not only their career that is the obstacle to gaining an ideal work/life balance, but instead women’s time is being consumed by ‘unpaid’ chores and domestic/ family responsibilities.
* Over 40% spend between 7 and 21 hours (or more) a week preparing family meals
* Over 70% spend 1-3 hours (or more) grocery shopping a week
* Almost three-quarters (73%) spend the majority of their lunch break on personal errands (banking, paying bills, dropping off the dry cleaning etc)
‘Me-time’ is a myth
Women’s ‘me-time’ is so eroded by chores that over a third of women get less than six hours sleep every night and contrary to widespread belief, almost half spend only 15 minutes on themselves every morning before leaving the house. With so little ‘me-time’ it’s no wonder that nearly all the women surveyed said that they feel stressed everyday.
