The classes are for women of any age, but she wants to particularly target women fifty and over to get them active, and stressed that these exercise and will not put any stress on anyoneâs bodies.
The oldest member of the group is eighty-four year old Clarice Myrie, who has benefited a lot from the classes, said Ms Brown. The group also discuss general health, including nutrition, with the aim of encouraging women to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
âIâd love to see people get active. People think you have to have expensive equipment, but with this programme, we just use mats.
Itâs just fifteen minutes long and we are not over-exerting ourselves. Iâd love to see more people take this small step,â said Ms Brown.
Jacqui Christian said, âI started it because of my back problems. It helps tremendously to stretch the muscles, especially the abdominals.â
Joyce Carter, a Care Worker with the Department of Family and Children’s Services, said she sustained back injury lifting a client. Ms Brown recommended the classes to her to help with this and there has been significant improvement since.
